However, the forum isn’t just for reporting bugs. Players can report bugs and actual members from the team can chime in on reasons why it may be happening and plans to fix it. This page was taken from a bug reporting thread. Shown above is a snippet from StoneHearth’s forum. What makes the game great, I think, is that these updates can be influenced by players like me.

As an consumer, it makes me feel more comfortable that the product I paid for will be finished.

As a player, each new update makes me excited to see what is to come. These are their overall goals for the game. Here they outline what they’re working on, what they’ve finished, and what they plan on doing. On the right is what they call their roadmap.

On the left, is their weekly update blog. Of them, I like Radiant’s blog with StoneHearth the best. While there are many reasons why I like these games, one thing that keeps me interested in these games are the Developer Blogs or Development Journals. A couple of my favorite games are StoneHearth, Rust, and Space Engineers. If you’re not familiar with this, you can read about it here. Early Access can be thought of as paying to play an Alpha or Beta version of the game. Of those games, a good many of them are currently in Early Access or were in Early Access. Farming, Mining, Wood chopping, crafting etc.I play a lot of games on my computer through Steam. Which would taper off as you automate more processes. During this stage I could envision some heavy micro. Resource gathering, basic building and crafting. The game, as I imagine it will be, has a fairly slow start.

And possibly the modders, if there is a way to work it out like that. Ultimately it is a decision for the developers. So, you do make a valid point, but I personally don't believe that feature would be game breaking. For the record, I've played a bit of DF, but damn that game is complex. I realize this game is even less those two than it is the games that you mentioned. I come from Rome: Total War and a bit of Starcraft. Only "inspire them" to cut down trees or place items in a certain position. My best guess is that in the game you are playing as God, and that you should have no direct control over the actions of the town's people. This seems like it would just be a small feature, and a useful one at that. You still would be city building and resource managing. I don't see exactly how moving characters is against the concept of the game. I understand why some people look at the Kickstarter, look at the Alpha 1 and say "well, nothing's really been done" but in reality there has been a significant amount of progress that will only improve going forward.

The team itself has now expanded to 6 (soon to be 7 with the concept artist position) and we've already seen great work done on the terrain generator (as in there's actually a terrain generator now) as well as the beginnings of a soundtrack. The Kickstarter video was definitely more a proof of concept than anything else and had a few basic models as well as basic construction and wood chopping in place, all things that I imagine have been reworked for the game we are seeing at the moment. I've seen a few comments like this around the place and just wanna put a few things out there.Ī lot of the development has been getting the behind the scenes stuff done - the engine as far as I know is pretty much completed, as well as a lot of other stuff that means they can now turn their focus to slotting new gameplay elements and models in. Now the feature you are asking for probably wouldn't take to long for them to implement it, but just like all things, they have a lot of small features like this probably planned, they just take time to do. So money is probably not a primary concern. not to mention they are probably have savings and stuff from a previous job considering they said they worked in the IT industry for the past 10 years and judging based off of the accomplishments they have, they have been handsomely paid. So as long as they are not blowing money on hookers and coke they should be able to make this money last a while.

some indie games take three to four years to make. they have made amazing headway in making the game, this is not a overnight project. its been out for a whole 13 days and you already complain about how long it is taking them. that gives each person 36,100 a year if it took them five years, granted some of that goes back to the office, but even then. I guess I don't know how you are spending that money as a minimalistic person and still running out of money in a year. That is 187,500$ per person, while they are making this game they probably are being fairly minimalistic and making sure to pay bills. They have a 4 man dev team at the moment.
